FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about intros, location, safety and your account.
The basics
What is NextMove?
An app that introduces you to people nearby, in public places, for dating, friendship, activities, networking and more. When it finds a strong match among people who are open near you, it asks you both. If you both say yes, it helps you find each other and say hello in person.
Why no swiping?
Because swiping turns people into a feed. On NextMove you never browse profiles. The matching looks at both people’s preferences and shared interests and suggests only intros it thinks are strong, one at a time.
How much does it cost?
Free includes every mode, chat, every safety tool and up to 3 intros a day. Paid plans with more intros and extra features are planned but not on sale yet; see Pricing.
Is there an iPhone or Android app?
Not yet. NextMove is a web app: open it in your phone’s browser and add it to your home screen. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon.
Who can join?
Adults 18 and older. Your birth date is required when you sign up, and accounts under 18 are blocked and deleted.
Which languages are available?
English, French and Spanish, on this site and in the app.
Location and privacy
Who can see my location?
Nobody, until you and one other person both say yes to an intro. Then only the two of you see each other’s direction and a distance range, for up to 30 minutes, and either of you can stop it at once.
Does NextMove track me in the background?
No. It uses your location only while you’re open now and the app is open on your screen.
Do you keep a history of where I’ve been?
No. We keep only your latest position and delete it within 2 hours or as soon as you stop being open now. The Privacy Policy lists everything we keep and for how long.
What is a venue’s vibe?
How many people at a venue are open to each mode right now, shown only when there are at least 3. It never shows who.
Can I be matched at home or at work?
No. Matching happens only at public venues, and you can mark your home and work so that nothing happens within 300 metres of them.
What is incognito?
A planned paid feature: you are only matched with people you already said yes to.
Intros
How are intros chosen?
First, both people’s rules for the mode must fit: who you’re open to, ages, dealbreakers and verification. Then a compatibility score from shared interests, lifestyle, intentions, personality, languages and past feedback. Only strong matches become intros, with one line on why.
What happens if I say no?
Nothing the other person can see. A no looks exactly like an intro that ran out of time. You won’t be introduced to the same person again for at least 7 days.
How long do I have to answer an intro?
10 minutes. You only ever have one pending intro at a time.
How many intros can I get?
Up to 3 a day on Free. Plus and Premium, when they open, raise the limit to 10 and 25.
How do we find each other?
After a mutual yes, a shared screen shows a compass arrow and a distance range, a colour and emoji beacon you can hold up, and optional notes like what you’re wearing. Quick replies let you say on my way or running late.
What if nobody good is around?
Check Best nearby this week: your strongest matches who were open in the same area this week. You can ask to meet later; it becomes an intro without any location.
Safety
What if I feel unsafe?
If you are in danger, call 911. In the app, the panic button alerts your trusted contacts right away, and a check-in timer alerts them if you don’t confirm you’re fine. You can end a find-each-other session, block and report at any time.
How does verification work?
You take a selfie in the app and a member of our team compares it with your profile photos. The selfie is deleted once reviewed. Phone verification is coming soon.
Who can see that I use Encounters?
Only other people who have turned Encounters on. It is off by default, requires selfie verification and age 18 or older, and is invisible to everyone else.
How do I report someone?
From their profile, an intro or a chat, choose Report. Our team reviews every report. You can also block them so you’re never matched again.
Your account
Do I have to connect Facebook or other accounts?
No. Linking accounts is optional and not available yet. When it is, nothing from a linked account is shown to others without your OK, and unlinking deletes what we derived from it.
What notifications will I get?
If you turn them on: a push when you get an intro, a mutual yes, a message or a check-in. Push notifications never include a name or a venue, and you can set quiet hours.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Settings, then Delete account. If you can’t sign in, use the account deletion page on this site.
