How it works

From open now to hello

NextMove does the looking for you. Here is what happens, step by step, and what the other person sees at each point.

The intro, step by step

  1. Set up once

Add at least two photos, the basics and the modes you want. For each mode, set who you’re open to, ages, boundaries and dealbreakers. Mark areas to avoid, such as home and work.

  2. Say you’re open now

Choose the modes, how long and an optional note like coffee intro, and whether you’re with friends and open to a group hello. Your status ends on its own when the time is up.

  3. We match you at the venue

While you’re open, your position is matched to a public venue near you. We look for a strong match among people open within about 300 metres. You never see who is around.

  4. You both get the intro

The intro shows first name, age, photos, the mode and one line on what you have in common. No location, venue or distance. You have 10 minutes to say yes or no.

  5. Mutual yes: find each other

A shared screen shows the direction and a distance range, a colour and emoji beacon to hold up, an optional note on what you’re wearing and quick replies like on my way. It lasts up to 30 minutes, and either of you can end it at once.

  6. Afterwards

Chat opens for the two of you. A couple of hours after you meet, a private check-in asks how it went. Your answer improves your future matches and helps keep everyone safe.

Only while the app is open

NextMove is a web app today, so it uses your location only while you’re open now and the app is open on your screen. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon.

Never exact distances

The find-each-other screen shows ranges such as more than 100 m, 50 to 100 m and less than 20 m, then very close. It never shows exact metres or a map.

How matching decides

The matching runs every few seconds among people who are open nearby.

  • Your rules come first

Both people must have the same mode on and fit each other’s choices: who you’re open to, ages, dealbreakers and verification. Blocked people are never matched.

  • Then a compatibility score

Shared interests, lifestyle, what you’re each looking for, personality, languages and how past intros went. Only strong matches become intros.

  • One line on why

Each intro comes with a short reason and an icebreaker, written by AI from details you both chose to show. Never from private fields.

  • Fair to everyone

You get at most one intro at a time and a daily limit, and people who already had many intros today rank lower, so nobody is flooded.

More ways to meet

  • Best nearby this week

When nobody good is around right now, see your strongest matches who were open in the same area this week and ask to meet later.

  • Events

Join meetups near you hosted by members or venues and approved by our team. Matching runs among the people who are there.

  • Group intros

Out with a friend? Say you’re open to a group hello and two of you can meet two others.

  • Wingperson

A friend you’re connected with in the Friends mode can suggest someone for you. It becomes an intro only if you both say yes.

  • Missed connections

If you both turned it on, being at the same venue this week can become an intro later.

  • Plan a meetup

In a chat, get suggestions for nearby places and times, and send a calendar invite.
